Customer Review: Great until the middle busted out

We really enjoyed pressing garlic time after time (under one year) with this sleek, shiny garlic press.
It did not require superhuman strength to squeeze peeled garlic (we never tried unpeeled cloves and never placed more than two cloves of peeled garlic at a time)and the amount of garlic that we were able to process was always satisfactory.
Trouble began when the center of the press started to look a bit frayed and rubbed off a bit. We could not figure out what was causing this because no where else on the garlic press did this happen. Yet, this did not affect the functionality of the press.
Now (about four or more months after first noticing the center fraying) our press is rendered unusable.
It's like the center part blew out (inside out). We did use the dishwasher to clean the press and perhaps the drying temp could have something to do with the damaged center wholes but, try it is still a mystery to us.
The fraying in the center holes began to warp outward and then finally it all culminated with what looks like someone took wire cutters and cut out the the center-most holes. Sort of even looks like someone tried to press a pebble and it gave way.
We are very sad to see our much appreciated garlic press die this way. We have not figured out what about dish washing could have caused the demise of our beloved garlic press so, we won't chance it to buy it again. We cannot bear bonding and then another possible loss.
The press is not hard to clean with it's small external cleaner (though it may be easy to lose if you are not fastidious about keeping it in one place. It does have an on board section on the press to stick into but, we just kept it in the kitchen drawer).
If the blowout thing didn't happen I would buy it again since the product does seem very well built and quite sturdy (otherwise).
So, I give 4 stars because though it was really nice while it lasted it didn't last long enough and that little cleaning tool is easy to lose.
So, back to the drawing board for garlic presses we go.
If it continues to work for you then maybe hand washing will keep it from busting out the middle.
